Are Avocados Constipating?

Avocados contain a large amount of insoluble fiber, the type that is not able to be processed by the digestive system, and therefore avocados can help to get the bowel moving.

Usually, foods high in insoluble fiber, such as avocado and whole grain cereals, help to relieve constipation because it helps to push food through the digestive system.

On occasion, however, avocados and other high-fiber foods may cause constipation, especially when eaten in large quantities or by people whose diets do not usually contain very much fiber.

This is because when a very large amount of fiber is consumed at one time, it can lead to internal blockages of the bowels digestive system, causing constipation and other symptoms.

If you find that avocados are causing you constipation, try eating a smaller portion of avocado and gradually increasing it as your body gets used to the levels of fiber.

In this way, you can gradually acclimate your body without overloading it with the fiber that can cause blockages and constipation.
