Nutritionally speaking, there may not be a more perfect food, let alone fruit, then the avocado. I recognize that this is largely a matter of preference, but for me at least, the avocados combination of nutrients and wonderful taste is just tough to beat.
Teeming with vitamins and phyto-nutrients, it helps to restore balance to the undernourished soul. It’s antioxidants fight free radicals and help prevent cancer. It is extremely low in sugar for fruit, and scores low on the glycemic index. And it’s healthy fat content maintains proper cholesterol levels. In short, there is a reason why it is a super-food.
In addition to its nutrition, I simply love the nutty and floral taste of an avocado. The flavor is so mild and alkaline that it is not a problem eating an entire avocado at one sitting, and it certainly makes a lively addition to a great many sandwiches and dishes.
It just doesn’t get much more wholesome than fruit such as the apple, orange, and avocado. But the avocado is a bit more exotic, in my book at least, due to its complexity of taste and high oil content. It almost feels a bit decadent to eat one, until you remember that it is a fruit and one of the most healthy at that. It’s easy to understand why avocado is considered an aphrodisiac in many cultures.
So this is simply my post and tribute to the avocado, one of my favorite foods. And a reminder to everyone everywhere to respect and appreciate the “wholesome goodness” of this wonderful delicacy.
