It is a myth that Japanese beetles are attracted to flames or artificial lights. In fact, they are not really active during the nighttime, at all.
Japanese beetles are diurnal, meaning they are only active during the daytime, and are largely dormant at night.
So if you had some plan to craft an elaborate Japanese beetle trap that utilized artificial light in order to lure the insects to their doom, it’s time to scrap that plan, it’s not going to work.
You are also free to leave the porch light on tonight, knowing that you are not attracting more Japanese beetles to your yard by doing so. You can sleep tight.
