Most fruits are acidic due to their high sugar content, but avocados are one of the exceptions to this rule as they are highly alkaline when metabolized by the body.
The main reason for this is due to the avocados extremely low sugar content as compared to most fruits. 85% of the calories in an avocado comes from fat and another 3% from protein.
Carbohydrates and sugars make up about 11% of its content, but the bulk of the carbohydrate content is made up of fiber (mostly insoluble fiber) as opposed to simple sugars.
For this reason, consuming avocado has an alkaline effect on the acidity levels of the body, and is one of the healthiest and nutritious foods on the menu.
