If you don’t know what avocado tastes like then that means you must have never tried one. If that’s the case, I suggest you expand your horizons and do so soon. I’m not trying to be mean or rude. It’s just that you are missing out on one of the best foods there is, and I really don’t want you to do that.
First off, I must say that there are many different cultivars of avocado, and each one has a different taste. In fact, there is a very wide range of taste and flavor among the avocado family. For this article, I will be only referencing the Haas avocado because that is the most popular and prevalent in the United States, and it also happens to be my favorite.
The taste of Haas avocado is a bit difficult to explain in words, but I’ll do my best. It has a mild flavor, not strong or overpowering. The texture of the flesh is creamy, smooth, and oily. The flavor is mildly nutty and floral. It is alkaline rather than acidic.
The feel is soft and delicate in your mouth, but heavy in your stomach. It is very filling due to its high fat content which packs many calories. Although it contains a lot of energy, it also is packed with vitamins and healthy nutrients. Don’t fear the avocado because of its high fat content.
Because the taste of an avocado is so mild, it can accompany a great many dishes and is a perfect addition for salads and sandwiches. I like to eat it whole and make a meal or a snack out of one. Try adding just a pinch of sea salt to liven it up and bring out the flavor.
I don’t know how well I’ve just described the taste of an avocado, but I’ve done my best. It is truly wonderful and something that I find myself craving from time to time. But don’t take my advice blindly. I recommend that you try one for yourself and come to your own conclusion. Chances are you will find them quite lovely yourself.
